Harun Aydin a victim of top-down arrogance - Ruto

In Summary

• Harun Aydin was detained by immigration officials on landing in Nairobi from Uganda where he had been since August 2.

• The arrest comes in the wake of Ruto’s blockage from travelling to the neighbouring country and the tough-talking DP trashing the president’s track record in what lifted the lid on their worsening relations.

Deputy President William Ruto has said that Turkish investor Harun Aydin is a victim of top-down arrogance.

This comes after Aydin, who was part of the entourage in Ruto's aborted trip to Uganda was on Saturday detained by immigration officers and police in Nairobi.

Ruto stated that this is tragedy of political pettiness.

"Turkish investor, Aydin Harun, is a victim of top-down arrogance bred by patronage and cartels that criminalise enterprise. Importers' goods declared contraband, Africa spirits closed, Keroche harassed, now investor with valid papers labelled terrorist. Tragedy of political pettiness," Ruto said.

Harun Aydin was detained by immigration officials on landing in Nairobi from Uganda where he had been since August 2.

Officials said they wanted to question him in regard to his immigration status, work permit and the business he is involved in the region.

The arrest comes in the wake of Ruto’s blockage from travelling to the neighbouring country and the tough-talking DP trashing the president’s track record in what lifted the lid on their worsening relations.

The controversial businessman who has been linked to terrorism was amongst the six individuals who were scheduled to accompany Ruto to Uganda.

However, the DP was blocked from travelling for lacking clearance from his boss in what Ruto and his allies termed as part of the wider plot to humiliate and reduce him to a no one.

“What happened were the efforts to undermine me and make me look useless in government and to show me that there are people with powers. The events are about supremacy in government,” Ruto said in an interview on Inooro FM on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the country’s second in command defended Aydin as a reputable businessman whom he helped secure a Sh15 billion loan to set up a business in Uganda.
